Care Group
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CONFERENCE
AND ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CARE GROUP
Coordinated by the Parish Spiritual counselor, the St. Vincent de Paul Conference/St. John the Baptist Care Group is a loosely organized group of parishioners who minister to St. John’s parishioners in times of special needs, in times of joy and pain alike. Its members reach out to parishioners with special care, offering support and help in simple ordinary ways.
The group accomplishes its mission in a variety of ways. Moneys have been received for this purpose from the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift and Outreach Program as well as from generous members of the parish. Moneys have been used to pay energy and medical bills. Some moneys have been spent to buy food for the needy, and given in times of disaster. The distribution of food from St. Joseph’s Table and on Thanksgiving continue to increase. Lawn care and snow removal have been provided as requested, although there is a trend for the elderly to sell their homes and move to smaller apartments and/or assisted living. Transportation to various places has been provided for as requested. Many of the homebound have been visited to make their time less lonely. Some parishioners who are unable to see had the newspaper and other interesting articles read to them. Cards have been sent in welcome, in sympathy, in congratulations and support as indicated. In general, specific needs are addressed as they surface to the point that our means allow.
A most sincere thank you and God bless you goes out to everyone who so generously has given of their time, moneys, and prayers to make this important mission work. Equally important is our gratitude to those who willingly have opened their hearts and home in a deep sense of trust as they graciously accepted what the St. Vincent de Paul Conference/St. John the Baptist Care Group had to offer.
