Children’s Liturgy of the Word

The Cherubs program at St. John the Baptist parish has two main parts. The first is the Children’s Liturgy of the Word program that is offered at the 9AM Mass from late September to early May. The Children’s Liturgy of the Word format allows families to worship together while meeting the needs of our younger parishioners. Children, 3 year olds to First Graders, and volunteers participate in the first part of mass (Liturgy of the Word) in the Bride’s Room. They are dismissed from the main assembly after the opening prayers. Then rejoin their families for the second part of mass (Liturgy of the Eucharist). The children listen to a child friendly version of the Gospel and do activities that help them better understand Jesus’ teaching. A simplified creed is professed, and prayers for our Church and each other are offered up, before they rejoin the congregation at Offertory. There is no registration; all are welcome to attend. Lead Teachers and student helpers are always needed.

Mass Bags

The second part of the Cherubs program is activity bags. These are available in the back of Church and the side Chapel. Young children may use them to focus their attention during Mass. The bag includes a variety of books chosen for your little ones.
